Some of our best friends got us thinking on the idea of joining a wine of the month club a couple of years ago, and since then we have been happy with our decision.
We started out by joining the international wine of the month club that our friends were enrolled in. I must admit that I have thoroughly enjoyed my wine of the month experiences.
In time and from personal experience I have found the California wine of the month club to be more forthcoming than the international wine of the month club that I had first joined.
The reason being is that the wine of the month club would supply us with from around the world, but although this was great, there was also a downside to it. As with everything else there are that simply do not appeal to my taste.
Whenever I receive a bottle of wine from my wine of the month club that is not to my particular liking, I will definitely not drink it and so it will either stand in my wine rack for years or I will find a friend who likes that particular type of wine and trade it for one that is more to my taste, or perhaps I will give it to someone as a Christmas or birthday present.
Although I love giving presents, I really do not relish the idea of giving my friends a bottle of wine just because I do not fancy it and because I got it from my wine of the month club and want to give it away, this concept just does not feel right.
For this reason I decided to join the local California wine of the month club. Although this may seem a strange thing to say, the truth is since I made the transition to good old California, my experience with the local I have tasted has been truly delightful as I have yet to taste a local wine that does not appeal to my taste buds.
I must mention that this is also true of the California local beer, great stuff. On the unlikely chance of sounding partial to a particular region, and seeing as the grapes that grow in California cannot be much different from those grown in other parts of the world, I must admit that California wines are my absolute favorite choice of wines.
As a member of California wine of the month club, I can freely indulge myself in that wonderful taste. More importantly when I give a bottle of wine as a gift from my wine of the month club, I will be giving it away not because I do not like it, but because I believe that someone else will enjoy it as much as I do.
Bear in mind though that there are many people who are unable to differentiate between one type of wine from the other, so to say that a wine of the month club is for everyone, would not be entirely true.
For those of you who simply want to enjoy a nice bottle of wine on occasion, then a wine of the month club is definitely not for you as it is not worth the expense.
